Government Funding & Benefits
Autistic individuals in the United States may be eligible for government funding and benefits.
Federal and state level resources can provide financial assistance, access to healthcare, and support services. Navigating the various programs and requirements can be complex.
Benefits administered by the Social Security Administration include Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Medicaid, and Medicare. SSI determination is based on age/disability and limited income and resources, whereas SSDI determination is based on disability and work credits. Work incentives make it possible for people receiving SSDI or SSI to work and still receive monthly payments.
Additionally, there are state-specific programs that offer additional support and resources. It is important for Autistic individuals and their families to explore the options available to them and determine which programs may be best suited to their needs.
