Watertown non-profit to host autism-friendly gala

A gala may present many challenges for someone on the autism spectrum. It may be loud and crowded, which can be uncomfortable and overwhelming. For someone with autism spectrum disorder, a gala’s unpredictable nature of meeting new people and having spontaneous conversation can also cause anxiety.

The Asperger/Autism Network is a non-profit organization that works with individuals, families, and professionals to help people with autism spectrum disorder lead meaningful and connected lives. The organization’s largest fundraising event is an annual gala. This year AANE has made some fundamental changes to ensure their gala is an “autism friendly” event.
