When parenting, teaching, befriending, treating, working alongside, or supervising someone with an Asperger profile:
- Consider both the person’s challenges and his or her strengths.
- Balance acceptance with teaching necessary skills.
- Strengths-based interventions foster hope, inspiration, and energy.
- People with Asperger profiles have enormous potential, and can be rewarding family members, friends, clients, students, or colleagues.
We can all work together to create circumstances in which individuals with an Asperger profiles lead meaningful and connected lives, where their sensitivities are recognized as gifts and leveraged against their challenges. There is still much work to be done in terms of understanding the causes of, and influences on, the Asperger experience.
