This study for my master’s thesis focuses on the different experiences faced by mothers of children with ASD. Participants (mothers 25 years of age or older with a child who has been diagnosed with ASD) will complete an 20-30 minute online survey through Qualtrics which will be measuring factors such as the child behaviors, parent child relationship, enacted stigma, and parental stress involved with being a parent of a child with ASD and how these factors differ across racial groups. The research is also interested in examining how these factors impact parental stress. The importance of this study is to fill in the gaps in literature, identify the underlying mechanisms of the three contributors examined which will make it easier to intervene accordingly, and it is also important to acknowledge whether there are differences in their factors due to racial group because the suffering of one group can eventually impact the rest of the population.
