Understanding
AANE strives to help those in our community build greater understanding: for individuals on the spectrum, to form a greater understanding of themselves, and for families and professionals, to understand, value, and support neurodiversity. Don’t miss AANE’s fall conference on November 16 when all members of the Asperger/autism community can come together to learn, connect, and develop a greater understanding–not only from presenters, but from each other.
Rejecting the Diagnosis
While many parents work diligently to help their child understand his or her profile and provide various kinds of interventions and supports, many teens and young adults enter a phase where they reject their Asperger/autism diagnosis. This month, Executive Director Dania Jekel helps parents understand this situation and suggests constructive ways to respond.

ROCK ‘N’ BOWL for Autism
November 24
Pat Schissel, AANE – NY Director, invites you to ROCK ‘N’ BOWL for Autism (RNB). RNB is an annual, family-friendly, fun-filled fundraising event held by AHA since 2010. Now that AANE and AHA have joined forces, we are delighted this tradition continues. RNB 2019 will take place on Sunday, November 24 at Farmingdale Lanes, 999 Conklin Street, Farmingdale, NY from 2-5 PM. Sponsorship opportunities available.
Fall Support Group Series
Space remains in select AANE fall support group series for individuals with Asperger/autism profiles, parents, and family members. Register today!
A Support Group Series has the same participants meeting for a set number of sessions and requires advanced registration.
Ongoing/Drop-In Groups do not require a multi-session commitment.

AANE Parent Coaching in Chelsea, MA:

For parents of children & teens with Asperger/autism profiles, parent coaching is a one-on-one, professional consultation service, which empowers parents and teaches them skills to address their child’s needs at home, in school, and in the community. For well over a decade, the AANE Artist Collaborative has provided a forum for artists with Asperger/autism profiles to connect and support one another. This group meets together regularly to create, show, and sell art at various venues. Autism Research Studies
University researchers and professionals are looking for study participants to further autism research, and they post descriptions on AANE’s website. New studies include the areas of romantic relationships, social functioning in tweens & teens, performance/theater based interventions, and much more. These optional studies may include individuals with autism and/or family members. Check back frequently as new studies are added regularly.
