Rejecting the Diagnosis
While many parents work diligently to help their child understand his or her profile and provide various kinds of interventions and supports, many teens and young adults enter a phase where they reject their Asperger/autism diagnosis. This month, Executive Director Dania Jekel helps parents understand this situation and suggests constructive ways to respond.

For well over a decade, the AANE Artist Collaborative has provided a forum for artists with Asperger/autism profiles to connect and support one another. This group meets together regularly to create, show, and sell art at various venues. University researchers and professionals are looking for study participants to further autism research, and they post descriptions on AANE’s website. New studies include the areas of romantic relationships, social functioning in tweens & teens, performance/theater based interventions, and much more. These optional studies may include individuals with autism and/or family members. Check back frequently as new studies are added regularly.
As a result of joining forces with AHA, AANE has a Professional Advisory Board made up of world-class experts in the Asperger/autism field. These advisors offer expertise to enrich our resources and programming and provide consultation on a range of clinical and organizational issues.
