FILLED – Online “Closed” Support Group for Women (35-50), 8/24/20-11/2/20, 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM EDT

“Closed” groups and activities have the same members for a set number of sessions.

This “closed” support group is designed for women (35-50) who are on the autism spectrum. Through this “closed” support group, women (35-50) can build an ongoing connection with a small community of other women. AANE “closed” support group for women also give women an opportunity to voice their concerns and frustrations. It also lets them acknowledge hard-won and unexpected victories.

Moderator: The group will be moderated by Miriam Zisook. Miriam Zisook is a social worker and designer on the team at Powderhouse Studios. Miriam has worked as a designer on assistive technology and wearable technologies and worked to support and increase the power and participation of disabled people in technology fields. Miriam’s work at Powderhouse is focused on how learning to make things and learning to solve problems like a designer can help people become more confident, competent, and empowered. A strong internet connection and a computer or tablet with a camera and microphone are required for this group.

Meeting Dates:

All meetings will be held online. We will meet for 8 meetings on Monday from 1:00-2:30 p.m EDT.

8/24, 8/31, 9/14, 9/21, 10/5, 10/19, 10/26, 11/2

  • Masking/camouflaging
  • Sensory sensitivities/overloads
  • Relationships
  • Self-care
  • Empathy

Cost: Group members need to register in advance and membership is limited to 9 individuals. Members must be women ages 35-50 with Asperger’s or a related profile. Due to a generous grant from Felicity House, we are able to offer this support group series at a very low cost. The cost, which covers all 8 meetings in the support group series, is $10 per person. This payment covers all meetings and you must register for the entire series.

Financial Assistance: We do recognize that registration fees may be a hardship for some adults. If this is the case, contact (Stephanie.Birkdale@aane.org) for a fee discount or waiver. We want to make sure that you get the support you need.
