About AANE’s “Closed” Support Groups for Parents of Adults 23 Years of Age and Older
“Closed”support groups for parents have the same members (12) for a set number of sessions (8). These groups are ideal for parents who want to go beyond sharing their story with newcomers each time at open support group meetings. Other adult family members, such as siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, or even close family friends can join these groups. (Spouses and partners of adults with Asperger’s should consider AANE support groups for neurodiverse couples and partners).
Parents and other adult family members who join our “closed” support groups are looking to establish a stronger connection with and get more extensive peer support from the same group members in a series of meetings. “Closed” support groups offer facilitated peer support for parents who are facing these and other challenges:
- Parenting without power now that your child is an adult
- Keeping the lines of communication open
- Helping their adult child live independently and have a fulfilling future.
- Navigating public and private benefits programs
These closed support groups also let parents give voice to their concerns and frustrations and acknowledge both hard-won and unexpected victories.
We offer “closed” support groups for parents of younger adults (23-29) and parents of older adults (over 30 years of age). We also offer “closed” support groups for parents of transition age youth (18-22).
Tips for Using Zoom

You aren’t required to install anything on your computer or tablet in order to use Zoom, but some people find it helpful to download the Zoom client. https://zoom.us/download
