October 6 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm, $25

Register now and watch this webinar live or later on-demand.  See below for details.

DESCRIPTION: Autistic women often go unrecognized and undiagnosed.  As a result, studies suggest that the ratio of autistic males to autistic females is around 3 to 1.

 This webinar will:

  • Explore how the traits of autistic individuals who identify as female often differ from those of autistic men
  • Discuss why autistic women are often diagnosed so much later in life
  • Point out what families of girls and what adult women might expect in diagnostic assessments, and the differences in diagnostic criteria based on research about autistic women.
  • Outline some of the typical challenges and strengths of autistic women.

During the last 20-30 minutes of this webinar, attendees will be able to pose questions to the speaker, via the Zoom chat feature.

SPEAKER: Marcia Eckerd, PhD. has been a licensed psychologist for more than 30 years. She has been appointed to the CT ASD Advisory Council and serves on the Clinical Advisory Group of the Asperger’s Autism Network (AANE.org).  She is also on the Board of Directors of NeuroClastic.org, an autistic nonprofit that provides education, opportunities, and resources for autistic individuals.   Her blog “Divergent Thinkers” was on Psych Central for 2016- 2020, and her current blog on Psychology Today is “Everyday Neurodiversity.”  Also see her April 2022 blog Women and Autism: Get a Diagnosis, Not Gaslighted (Practical guidance for women looking for an autism diagnosis)

Marcia diagnoses and helps autistic individuals with self acceptance as neurodivergent.  She also helps them navigate achieving their goals. After years of working with autistic and other neurodivergent individuals.  including those with NLD, she’s developed a speciality in diagnosing undiagnosed adults, especially women.Marcia’s goal is to spread awareness of the experiences of autistic children, women and men, help those seeking a diagnosis understand themselves better, and educate  mental health and school professionals as well as the the mainstream community to understand autistics and neurodiversity.
