WHAT: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a type of talk therapy, has been effective in helping those on the spectrum reframe negative patterns of thought to treat depression and anxiety. This webinar will provide an overview of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) that includes: the theory, the structure of the session, how to introduce the treatment model, and some CBT techniques. After presenting the overview of CBT, the focus will be on CBT’s benefits and challenges for children and adolescents on the autism spectrum, modifications for youth with ASD and case examples.
Dr. Singer is a licensed psychologist currently in private practice in Newton, MA. She specializes in adapting Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for children and adolescents on the autism spectrum and for other related social challenges. Prior to receiving her doctorate in counseling psychology, she earned a master’s degree in special education, working as a special education teacher for many years. She currently serves on the Executive Advisory Committee and the Clinical Advisory Group at AANE.
