Development of the Theory of Mind Inventory for Adult Self Report (ToMI-Adult-SR)

Research Study

Purpose: This study is being conducted to develop a tool to measure “theory of mind” in adults. Theory of Mind is defined as the ability to recognize and understand thoughts, beliefs, desires, and intentions of other people in order to make sense of their behavior and predict what they are going to do next. The Theory of Mind Inventory is an existing tool to measure theory of mind in children and adolescents, and we hope to adapt this tool to be used in an adult population.

Study Procedures: If you take part in the study, you will be asked to answer questions about your ability to understand the thoughts and feelings of yourself and other people. You will also be asked to answer some background questions about yourself, such as your age and gender. You will not be asked to share any information that could be used to identify you personally.

Recruitment Information: Looking for participants for an online research study! If you are 18 years or older, please consider completing this survey to help us develop a tool to measure theory of mind in adults. We are looking for autistic and non-autistic adults. The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. To link to our survey and learn more about it, please visit
