The purpose of this research is to examine the impact of processing information in online learning. Largely, this research will explore the effects of perceived anthropomorphism (the attribution of human characteristics) on information processing in online learning environments, for typically developed individuals and those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The study seeks to validate and improve the use of online learning as an avenue for those with ASD in higher education. Therefore, this research will investigate several relationships: i) instructors (human and non-human) and perceptions of anthropomorphism for individuals with ASD and typically developing college students ii) anthropomorphism and perceptions of co-presence for those with ASD, and iii) the impact of presence on perceived instructor effectiveness and attitudes toward the instructor.
