“A Correlational Study of Parenting children with ASD in the Black community.”

Research Study

My research examines the needs of the direct support system of children on the Autism Spectrum. The current study focuses on understanding the impact of spiritual well-being and support systems (family and community services) has on the level of stress of African American or Black parents or guardians of children with ASD. I will be recruiting caregivers, i.e. parents and guardians, of children with symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder to participate in my study. I am requesting permission to conduct my dissertation research with your organization.

Specifically, I am requesting permission to engage in the following research activities:

Contacting clients/members via email if they desire to participate in the study or posting information on site
Sending screening to determine eligibility for the study via email or posting information on site
Sending the demographic survey via email posting information on site
Collection of data on experience from clients/members via an internet survey
Analysis of data collected from research participants received via an internet survey
Using data to complete a dissertation

This project has been approved by Capella University’s Institutional Review Board (IRB).

My anticipated projected start date for data collecting is Spring of 2019 and I expect that anticipated completion of my dissertation will be Spring of 2020.

Any data collected will be kept confidential. In accordance with Capella policy and best practices for ethical research, neither participants nor sites will be identified in any report of my findings or in my published dissertation. I will provide a copy of the aggregate results from this study upon your request.
