This discussion/support group is limited to 10 young men with Asperger Syndrome* who are attending a residential college.
(* Men with closely related conditions such as High Functioning Autism, PDD-NOS, or Non-Verbal Learning Disorder are also eligible.)
Dr. Miles Tarter is a neuropsychologist experienced in psychotherapy, neuropsychological, psychodiagnostic, and academic achievement testing and diagnosis for students with attention, memory, learning, and social development issues. He is a former co-director of the Neuropsychological and Psychodiagnostic Testing Center at McLean Hospital. Dr. Tarter is a graduate of Yale University, Naropa Institute, and Antioch New England Graduate School and has trained at Yale, Brown, and Harvard Medical Schools. He is currently a clinical staff associate at Harvard Medical School and in private practice in Cambridge, MA. Dr. Tarter was the keynote speaker for AANE's Asperger Connections 2006 conference. He has extensive experience in working with highly intelligent people with social and emotional processing difficulties.
The group will be co-lead by Thomas Smithyman, M.A. a 7th year doctoral student in psychology at Suffolk University who also has extensive training in college counseling and research interest in interpersonal relationship difficulties, Asperger's, and bullying.
Cost: Sliding scale. Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance accepted.
Required pre-group interviews: If you are interested in participating in this group, please contact Dr. Tarter at mtarter@mac.com or 617 877-5978 as soon as possible to set up a short individual meeting with him. This is to ensure that the group will be compatible.
After the interviews, those who are invited to participate in the group will receive a registration form by email.
