The Communication Analysis and Design Laboratory at Northeastern University has developed a software program entitled ReadN’Karaoke that aims to enhance expression while reading aloud. Given that many individuals with Asperger’s Syndrome have difficulty with speech melody, we are conducting a study to determine whether our software can improve expressive reading in this population.
We are seeking participants between the ages of 6-8 with a diagnosis of Asperger’s Syndrome. The study will take place at our laboratory over four 60-75 minute sessions. In the first session we will screen your child’s speech, hearing, and reading ability. If eligible, participants will read a series of short stories with and without melodic cues using our software. Recordings will be analyzed offline to assess the impact of the software on oral reading expression. Participants will receive a $60 honorarium for completing the study.
