Planned Giving to AANE
Many people want to make charitable gifts but want to do so in a way that meets their personal, family, and financial needs. Planned gifts to AANE can give you options that may allow you to:
- Make larger tax deductible charitable gifts
- Increase your current income
- Plan for the financial needs of a spouse or loved one
- Provide inheritances for your heirs at a reduced tax cost
- Reduce your income tax, capital gains tax, and estate tax
- Diversify your investment portfolio
- Receive extra income from your personal residence, business, or commercial real estate
- Plan for the transfer of your business
- Leave a charitable legacy for future generations
Planned gifts can be made in many different ways;
- Cash gifts to AANE, as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, may be tax deductible up to 50% of AGI, as of 2008.
- Donations of Appreciated Assets such as stocks, bonds, mutual funds, art work, business interests, or real estate may be tax deductible up to 30% of AGI, as of 2008.
- You can also make bequests to AANE through your will, trust, special needs trust, life insurance policy, estate plan, or retirement plan assets.
- Lifetime income strategies can also be developed for a donor, spouse, or multiple beneficiaries using charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, or charitable gift annuities. Upon the death of the donor, assets can then pass to surviving family members, AANE, or be used for other purposes.
- 2008 and 2009 tax law allows donors over age 70 ½ to make tax-free distributions from their Traditional IRA or Roth IRA to AANE, up to $100,000.
- Donors can name AANE as a beneficiary of their retirement plan assets, and upon the death of the donor, their assets would pass income- and estate-tax-free to AANE, saving the estate up to 70% in taxes. Other appreciated assets, with a stepped-up cost basis can then be left to heirs.
AANE will work closely with your attorney and CPA to help develop a plan that will allow you to receive favorable income tax deductions, a lifetime income stream for you or your beneficiaries, minimize estate taxes, and/or ultimately transfer property to AANE or back to your family upon death.
