Does your child or someone you know frequently misunderstand the nuances of friendships and lacks the pragmatic skills to develop long lasting relationships? Social skills are a foundation for getting along with others. Poor social skills can lead to peer rejection, bullying, difficulty in making friends, poor self-esteem, academic failure, isolation and depression, so it is vitally important to help a child practice these much needed skills as often as possible.

Children and adults with Asperger Syndrome, and related disorders are often in need of services to increase their skills in social communication or pragmatic language so that they can succeed in both school and workplace settings. They typically have deficits in Theory of Mind, Central Coherence, and Executive Function that keep them from developing the skills of social interaction. This course will focus on treatment for the learning of conversation and listening skills, personal narrative skills, and verbally mediated problem solving using “self-talk.”
